TCHS announces new football schedule

Coach Kevin Creasy has announced the football schedule for this year and the Jackets will face five new opponents.

Clay County, PIckett County, Monterey and Jackson County are no longer on the schedule. These teams were a cumulative 12-30 last year. Also gone is a trip to Kentucky for a game.

On Aug. 30 the Jackets will travel to Pleasant View to face the Sycamore War Eagles who finished 7-4 last season in 4-A play. The War Eagles defeated Greenbriar, Glencliff, White House and Ezell-Harding, among others, before losing to Liberty Tech in the playoffs.

On Sept. 20 the purple and gold will bus to Madison to play the Goodpasture Cougars who have moved into the district with the Jackets. Notable wins for the Cougars in 2012 were over McGavock, Lipscomb Academy and Greenbriar, before falling to CPA in the second round of the playoffs. In 1992 the Jackets caged the Cougars 28-7 on the road.

Sept. 27 Trousdale County will welcome the Gallatin Green Wave (5-A) to John Kerr Field. The Wave was down by its standards last year, but still posted wins over Hendersonville, Lebanon and Springfield. The Jackets last played the Green Wave in 1969 and won five straight from 1963-67.

Coach Creasy will take his guys to Smithville on Oct. 4 to test the 4-A DeKalb County Tigers who were 10-2 last year with key wins over Smith County, York Institute, Sequoyah and Hixson.

The Tigers advanced to the second round of the playoffs. The two teams last met on the gridiron in 2004, and the Jackets won 55-7.

The Jackets will make their longest road trip Oct. 11 when they travel to Loretto. The Mustangs play at the 2-A level and finished 8-4 last year with notable wins over Mt. Pleasant, Perry County, White House-Heritage and defending Class A champion Wayne County. They lost to Adamsville in the quarterfinals. This year the Mustangs will return 16 starters, most of which are two year starters.
