Hugh Climont Oldham, age 88, of Hendersonville, formerly of Macon County, passed away on Aug. 19, 2018 at Main Street Assisted Living in Hendersonville.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 22, 2018 from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Lafayette, with Elder Ricky White officiating.
Burial was in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park with military honors.
Pallbearers were: Scotty Keene, Randy Keene, Michael Oldham, Church Herrington, Gary Keene and Michael Herrington. Honorary pallbearers were: Sam Oldham and Tyler McGowan.
Climont was born on Jan. 15, 1930, one of 10 children born to the late Samuel Climont and Carrie Manilla (Merryman) Oldham. He married the former Mary Alice Halliburton on Sept. 5, 1952, who preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers, W.T. Oldham, Samuel Oldham, sisters, Evelyn McClard, Leona Gammons, Sue Keene, Gustine Keene and Stavanna Oldham.
He was inducted into the United States Army on Jan. 22, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as manager of Dollar General Stores in Winchester, KY, Davidson County and Macon County. He later worked at International Harvester in Indianapolis and for Carter Automotive in Lafayette. He was a Justice of the Peace in District 13 in Macon County for two consecutive six-year terms beginning in 1960. During that time the Justice of Peace could issue warrants and judge civil controversies and cases that were not criminal, and could perform marriages. He was ordained to preach through the Meadorville Church.
Survivors are: two sons, Kelvin (Amber) Oldham of Gallatin, Marion (Wilma) Oldham of Lafayette; two daughters, Shelia Brann of Gallatin, Mary Helen (Michael) McGowan of Castalian Springs; two brothers, Gene (Lou) Oldham, Wayne (Judy) Oldham, all of Lafayette, six grandchildren, Laura (Robert) Sloan of Memphis, Carrie (Chuck) Herrington of Scottsville, KY, LaDonna Jones of Bethpage, Katrina Oldham of Lafayette, Tyler McGowan of Castalian Springs and Sam Oldham, seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
