She had opportunities from several NCAA Division schools, but Mt. Juliet senior K.C. VanAtta has chosen to stay with family for her college basketball career.
The Lady Bear forward will sign on the dotted line with NAIA power Trevecca Nazarene, coached by her father, Gary, at 11 a.m. this morning at MJHS. She picked the Lady Trojans over D-I schools Samford and George Washington.
In addition to playing for her father, VanAtta will be reunited with a pair of former Lady Bear teammates, guard Christian Gibson and center Paige McFarlin, who are beginning their freshman seasons with the Nashville-based school.
VanAtta, an outside sharpshooter, averaged 10.3 points per game on 51-percent shooting from the floor, 38 percent from three-point range and 84 percent from the free-throw line during the Lady Bears’ 25-4 regular season as a junior.
Because she’s going to an NAIA school, she doesn’t have to wait until the NCAA’s early signing period which begins Nov. 8. Wilson Central senior forward Tierney Jenkins is expected to sign with Alabama then while Mt. Juliet pitcher Taylor Hill is due to make his commitment to Vanderbilt baseball final at that time.
