The second annual Downtown Sound summer music festival series is returning to Hartsville on Thursday.

The second annual summer music festival series, Downtown Sound, is returning to Hartsville Thursday, and will be held on the second Thursday of each month throughout the summer, including May 9, June 13, July 11 and Aug. 8.

The concert stage will be set up on Court Street in historic downtown Hartsville, with music beginning at 6 p.m. Local food vendors will also be open for business between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on East Main Street.

One final concert in the series will take place at the Trousdale County Fair, which will be held at Trousdale County High School on Sept. 5.

“We are going to have the same setup as last year,” said Downtown Sound organizer Mike Potts. “We will be closing East Main Street for our food trucks and street vendors, and the music will be on Court Street.

“We are ending the concerts at the town square in August, but, then, we’re will be doing one more in September. On Sept. 5, we are going to do it at the high school in conjunction with the Trousdale County Fair.”

Potts and the Hartsville Rotary Club are pleased to present Downtown Sound and encourage area residents to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the free music throughout the summer, as well as support local food vendors who are present at the events.

“We do have a few new bands this year,” said Potts. “Southern Image is the first act — of course, they were here last year and did an excellent job. But we have added four new bands, and we’ll change it up again next year.”

Because the organizers want to keep the music festival free to the public, they are looking for sponsors, as each of the five concert costs roughly $1,200.

“We are starting an arts council here in Hartsville, and they are sponsoring the second event this year,” said Potts. “But we are still looking for more sponsors.”
